It is a few years now since Welsh author and academic Jon Gower said "What's a Clough?" to me at the Hay Festival, and so, unwittingly, gave me the title for this book.
"What's a Clough? - Exploring the landscape and language of England" is more or less complete now (May 2026) and even has a very nice foreword by the Bard of Barnsley, Ian McMillan, but just at the moment it has been overtaken by its partner title "What's a Cwm? - Exploring the landscape and language of Wales" (see adjacent gallery) which I hope to see published in 2027.
It is a slow old business, making books.
